CBTSC / T34C 2025 RENDEZVOUS

The annual Tartan 34 Classic Association Chesapeake Bay Rendezvous was expanded into a combined event this year with members of the Chesapeake Bay Tartan Sailing Club (CBTSC) on a fine early Fall weekend in St. Michaels Maryland. The historic Higgins Yacht Yard served as home base for the rendezvous and boats began arriving there on Friday afternoon in a light northeasterly breeze and favorable tide. After catching up with drinks and snacks in the yard, the group sortied into town for dinner, finding it pleasantly uncrowded for such a beautiful weekend evening.
The focus on Saturday was log canoe racing, with the Miles River Yacht Club’s Higgins/Commodore’s Cup scheduled. Mike and Pat Heilman hosted a cocktail party at their lovely home overlooking the race course and the race committee obliged by placing a windward mark nearby for ideal spectating from the lawn. It was a light southeast breeze, but the canoes were moving smartly with all sail set and competition was fierce with T34CA Commodore Tim Dull providing color commentary and distributing commemorative gifts to attendees.
After the racing, the gang retired back downtown for a group dinner at the Crab Claw to round out the day. The wind never did fill in for the return transits on Saturday, but the weather was otherwise optimal for the weekend and a good time was had by all. Hopefully club schedules can be coordinated again to repeat this event next year.
